Okay, it wasn’t the smartest thing to pack 2 day trips in a row but I did. The next day I visited Chiang Rai for that beautiful white temple also known as Wat Rong Khun and to see the Golden Triangle. It was a jam packed tour with pick up at around 7am and end time at about 8pm. This kind of tour was the type where you were in the van for more of the time you were outside.

We arrived at Chiang Rai and it was raining. Regardless, it was beautiful. There was an earthquake last month which slightly damaged the temple I was told. I couldn’t tell. When you enter, it’s best to dress modestly however if you are wearing a sleeveless shirt, you can cover up with a scarf and they will give you a sarong to wear.

This temple has some aspects of hell and heaven as you can see below.

There is a famous gold temple and golden toilet however we didn’t have enough time to see the golden toilet.

Next we hit the Golden Triangle which is the rivers conjoin between Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar. This place on the riverside is known for growing opium historically and there is a museum.  Many of us decided not to take the boat ride to see the border of Laos so we stayed and took pictures on the riverside. I met these lovely ladies from Spain.

Next, we went to to visit the border of Thailand to Laos on land. We had 10 minutes to check it out. We tried to put our foots on the Laos border but didn’t succeed. The blue building is the immigration office.

As many people have written online about the Golden Triangle, it is a tourist trap. I think if I were to do this again, I’d only want to go see the white temple. But, hey, it was included on the tour and it was still a good deal for $30 with a buffet lunch to go to all those places.
